About the role

The U.S. Mission in Belize is hiring a Building Engineer Supervisor for the Facilities section of the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent supervisory position. The supervisor leads the team that maintains the Embassy compound's building systems, and oversees custodial and grounds staff. The position involves occasional travel abroad for official training and workshops. The vacancy is open until filled, with applications reviewed every two weeks. Responsibilities

Lead a team of skilled tradespersons who maintain the Embassy compound's operating systems
Oversee mechanical and electrical systems, the building automation system, chillers, air handling units and the VAV system
Oversee potable water, sanitary sewage, storm sewage, oil water separator, and fuel delivery, distribution and monitoring systems
Oversee fire alarm and fire suppression systems
Oversee power generation and distribution, including voltage regulators, transformers, switchgear, panel boards, automatic transfer switches, variable frequency drives and uninterruptible power supply systems
Supervise the custodial and grounds maintenance staff
Oversee the recycling and energy conservation program

Requirements

Option 1: a four-year Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) in mechanical, electrical, general or civil engineering, plus five years' experience as a project manager, supervisor or foreman in a large facility
Option 2: an Associate of Science (or equivalent) in mechanical, electrical, general or civil engineering, plus seven years' experience as a project manager, supervisor or foreman in a large facility
That experience must include managing a preventive maintenance program with a Computerized Maintenance Management System, and developing scopes of work, construction documents and cost estimates
One additional year of supervisory experience
Fluent English (speaking, reading and writing); this may be tested
Able to read civil, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings, and to write detailed technical reports
Valid Class A driver's licence, held for at least five years
Must be 25 years or older, under the Embassy's driver safety policy
Must be able to obtain a security certificate and pass a background investigation; a pre-employment medical exam may be required
