Community Rehabilitation Officer II (Community Rehabilitation Department)
About the role
The Community Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Community Rehabilitation Officer II. Community Rehabilitation Officers provide professional social work, assessment, case management, court, rehabilitation, supervision, advocacy and reintegration services to persons involved in or at risk of involvement in the justice system. Depending on the Department's operational needs, officers may be assigned to the Court and Case Management Unit (juveniles in contact with the justice system) or the Adult Probation Unit (adults in conflict with the law). Stations: Corozal, Orange Walk, Belize City, San Pedro, Independence and Toledo.
Responsibilities
- Conduct professional assessments, investigations and case management
- Prepare reports and recommendations for the Courts
- Provide counselling, rehabilitation and reintegration support
- Develop and monitor individualized case and rehabilitation plans
- Supervise and monitor compliance with court-ordered alternative sentences, where applicable
- Coordinate referrals to rehabilitation and community-based services
- Promote accountability, behavioural change, restorative justice, public safety and successful reintegration
- Work collaboratively with the Judiciary, Police, correctional institutions, government agencies, service providers and community partners
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Anthropology or a related field
- Minimum three (3) years' relevant professional experience
- Strong communication, report-writing, assessment, case management, interpersonal, organizational, analytical and professional judgement skills
- Commitment to rehabilitation, accountability, restorative justice and public safety
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in social work, case management, rehabilitation, probation, corrections, court services, or a related justice or community-based setting
