Technical Services Librarian
About the role
The Technical Services Librarian manages the University Library's technical services: acquisitions, cataloguing, classification, metadata and electronic resources. The role leads the Technical Services Unit and enforces library policies and procedures across all branches. Based at the Belmopan Central Campus.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Technical Services Unit, assess its workflows and systems regularly, and train, supervise and evaluate its staff
- Keep current with trends in library technology and cataloguing and propose improvements
- Develop and maintain cataloguing and metadata standards
- Do original and copy cataloguing using MARC, RDA and AACR2
- Advise on selecting, withdrawing and sorting materials, and maintain the collections
- Oversee acquisition of books, journals, databases and electronic resources, keep acquisition records, track budgets and comply with purchasing policies
- Make sure electronic resources are integrated into the discovery tools and systems, and keep records for licensing, subscription renewals and vendor agreements
- Take part in database maintenance and integrated library system (ILS) implementation, and be the main contact for ILS, discovery platform and other system issues
- Troubleshoot access problems with the E-Service Specialist and IT support
- Produce monthly, semesterly and annual technical services reports and enforce library policies consistently across branches
- Help with program planning, outreach and public relations, serve on project committees and attend meetings and library workshops, and do other library duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Library Studies or a related field
- At least 3 years' experience in a library environment
- At least 2 to 3 years' experience in technical services or with library management systems
- Experience with integrated library systems
- Familiarity with electronic resource management tools, database administration and access troubleshooting
- Strong knowledge of cataloguing, metadata and classification standards
- Proficiency with library management systems and related software
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and oral communication, including clear documentation and user training
- Able to work with a diverse group of colleagues and students
- Courtesy and respect for others, reliability, integrity, accountability and a strong work ethic
