About the role

Belize Sugar Industries is hiring a Tractor Operator in Orange Walk. The operator runs tractors for a range of agricultural tasks, including ploughing, bush hogging, transporting trailers and towing hi-tip wagons for cane loading. During mechanical harvesting, the Tractor Operator works alongside the harvester with a hi-tip wagon to load and transport billeted cane.

Responsibilities

Operate tractors safely and efficiently.
Follow all instructions, procedures and guidelines from supervisors so work is completed to a high standard.
Keep supervisors and mechanics informed about machine maintenance and repairs, and report mechanical faults immediately.
Assist with routine tractor maintenance, including blowing radiators and greasing hi-tip wagons.
Carry out routine and scheduled machine inspections before operation.
Complete the tractor checklist and daily log at the end of each shift.
Use the required personal protective equipment at all times while operating machinery.
Take part in supervisors' meetings and contribute feedback and suggestions on operations.

Requirements

Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Able to identify and respond to routine mechanical issues affecting equipment.
Able to perform physically demanding tasks and work under atypical conditions, including repairs to critical machine components.
Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials required for machine operation.
Works in a safe, clean and efficient manner.
Strong observation and attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification or training in heavy equipment or agricultural machinery.
One to three years' experience operating harvesting or heavy agricultural equipment.
Valid driver's licence; Class E or heavy-duty equipment licence is an asset.
