Automotive Mechanic/Chauffeur
About the role
The U.S. Mission in Belize is hiring an Automotive Mechanic/Chauffeur for the General Services office (motor pool) of the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position. The vacancy is open until filled. Applications are reviewed from September 22, 2026, then every two weeks. Responsibilities
- Serve as a maintenance mechanic in the General Services Office motor pool
- Run daily vehicle maintenance and automotive service scheduling
- Provide quality control for major vehicle maintenance
- Perform basic on-site maintenance on vehicles
- Drive assigned vehicles and keep them clean and serviceable
- Keep vehicle-usage, fuel purchase and maintenance records
Requirements
- Completion of secondary school
- Vocational automotive repair training, or journeyman mechanic or apprenticeship certification
- At least two years' experience as an automotive mechanic
- At least two years' driving experience
- Good working knowledge of English (speaking, reading and writing); this may be tested
- Basic computer skills to use proprietary software and prepare simple reports
- Able to troubleshoot vehicle malfunctions using diagnostic tools and software
- Valid driver's licence, held for at least five years
- Must be 25 years or older, under the Embassy's driver safety policy
- Must be able to obtain a security certificate and pass a background investigation; a pre-employment medical exam may be required
