Examiner, Off-Site Surveillance
About the role
The Central Bank of Belize's Supervision Department is hiring an Examiner for off-site surveillance. The examiner carries out risk-based off-site surveillance of assigned supervised institutions, reviewing and analysing their financial performance and risk profile.
Responsibilities
- Carry out risk-based off-site surveillance of assigned licensed institutions, including quantitative and qualitative analysis of their financial condition, performance, operations and risk
- Review periodic returns, regulatory submissions, audited financial statements and other information for compliance with laws, regulations and directives, and identify regulatory issues
- Prepare periodic financial and regulatory reports, including reports for the Board and publications
- Monitor institutions under enhanced supervision or special monitoring, including outstanding issues, and give updates and recommendations
- Help assess and process applications from banks, credit unions and other supervised institutions, including due diligence on shareholders, directors, committee members and executive management
- Communicate with supervised institutions and support them on regulatory matters
- Monitor emerging risks and support supervisory action
- Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- At least a bachelor's degree in accounting, banking, finance or economics from a recognised university
- At least 1 year of relevant experience
- Familiarity with the Central Bank of Belize Act, Domestic Banks and Financial Institutions Act, International Banking Act, Credit Unions Act, Moneylenders Act, National Payment System Act and Money Laundering and Terrorism (Prevention) Act, and their regulations
- Knowledge of international best practices and standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
