About the role
WE ARE HIRING! SHAKA CAYE PRIVATE ISLAND RESORT HEAD CAPTAIN & TOUR GUIDE Role Overview Lead boat operations and provide exceptional guided tours, ensuring guest safety, comfort, and memorable experiences around Belize’s beautiful waters and islands.
Responsibilities
- Must work closely with Guest Services, General Management, and other administrative departments to prepare and submit accurate, timely daily and monthly reports on all boat operations, tours, excursions, and activities, ensuring proper documentation and organized record-keeping at all times.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, manage inventory, and keep organized records of equipment and supplies.
- Operate and maintain boats safely and efficiently.
- Lead guided tours, snorkeling, diving, and fishing excursions.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the Belize Barrier Reef, the Great Blue Hole, and other popular Belizean attractions and marine sites.
- Share knowledge of local history, marine life, and tourist destinations.
- Ensure guest safety and deliver exceptional service.
- Represent Shaka Caye with professionalism at all times.
Requirements
- Must be fluent in both English.
- Certified captain with valid licenses and credentials.
- Extensive knowledge of Belize, with in-depth familiarity with Belize City, Caye Caulker, and San Pedro being essential.
- Strong knowledge of local diving, snorkel and fishing sites.
- Proven experience in boat operations, guest safety, and guided tours.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Reliable, professional, organized, and committed to maintaining the highest safety standards.
- Flexibility to live and work on the island for required periods and adjust to operational demands during peak seasons.
Preferred qualifications
- Clean police record and a professional, dependable, guest-focused attitude.
- Previous experience as a Head Captain, Tour Guide, or in a similar marine tourism role.
- Additional certifications in boating, diving, snorkeling, first aid, CPR, and marine safety.
- Familiarity with local fishing grounds, diving sites, snorkeling locations, and marine life.
- Experience leading and supervising boat crews and coordinating marine excursions.
- Strong administrative skills, including daily operational reports, and monthly reporting.
- Experience coordinating with Guest Services, General Management, and other departments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
