Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Finance

About the role

The Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Finance, Investment and Economic Transformation, Civil Aviation and E-Governance is recruiting a Public Relations Officer for its Ministry Headquarters in Belmopan. This is one established post (Circular Memorandum No. 74 of 2026). The Public Relations Officer plans, coordinates and manages the Ministry's public relations, sharing information about its programmes, activities and accomplishments to strengthen the image of the Public Service. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Belize Constitution (Public Service) Regulations 2014, the Financial and Stores Orders, and the Finance and Audit (Reform) Act.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, advise on and implement public relations policies and strategies that meet the Ministry's and departments' needs
  • Research, prepare and coordinate PR materials such as press releases, PSAs, advertisements, brochures, newsletters, articles, annual reports, fact sheets, scripts, photos and videos
  • Plan and coordinate press conferences and special events, respond to negative or inaccurate statements, and handle requests from the public and media
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with the news media through calls, news conferences, interviews, releases and briefings
  • Follow up on public relations issues assigned by the CEO, heads of department or the supervisor
  • Keep the Ministry's official website and Facebook page up to date by gathering, reviewing and editing content from departments and units
  • Collect news clippings, analyse media coverage that affects the Ministry's image, and plan follow-up action
  • Build community relations through events such as open days and tours

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communication, Journalism or a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in a communications-oriented organisation, such as journalism, advertising, marketing or fundraising
  • Good communication, writing, analytical and time-management skills
  • Ability to network, work in a team, multitask and maintain confidentiality, with honesty and integrity

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong social media and communication-tool skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Strong organisation, scheduling and planning; able to manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Keeps up with current affairs; creative, self-confident and shows initiative
  • Team player with attention to detail who works well under pressure
