Statistician

Belmopan (SSB Headquarters)Full-time

About the role

The Social Security Board is hiring a permanent Statistician in Research and Development Services at its Belmopan headquarters, reporting to the Manager, Statistical Services. The Statistician collects, analyses, interprets and presents statistical data to guide strategic and operational decisions across the SSB, supporting policy development and performance monitoring to international standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run statistical studies
  • Collect, clean, validate and manage data, and run data quality control
  • Analyse trends and monitor socio-economic and demographic trends
  • Produce the Annual Statistical Abstract, the Annual Report segment, monthly and quarterly core process reports, tables, graphs and ad hoc reports
  • Provide modelling, forecasts and risk assessments to inform policy
  • Present findings to senior management, the Board and stakeholders
  • Conduct literature reviews and design surveys and sampling
  • Ensure ethical, confidentiality and data protection standards are met
  • Train staff on ISIC Rev. 4.1, ISCO-08 and ICD-11 classifications
  • Advise other divisions on statistical matters

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science or a related quantitative field
  • 3 years of experience in areas such as data preparation and analysis, modelling and forecasting, survey design, statistical publications and dashboards, socio-economic or labour data, or research
  • Proficiency in SPSS, R, Python, Excel or similar
  • Regression, time-series and inferential analysis
  • Strong communication and data visualization skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Certification in SPSS, R, Python or a related statistical designation
  • Experience in the public sector, social security or a regulated environment
