Vehicle Fleet Officer, Customs & Excise Department
About the role
The Customs & Excise Department (Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of Finance) is recruiting a Vehicle Fleet Officer to manage the department's vehicle fleet and its safe operation, including driver compliance and logistics. The post reports to the Chief Security Officer, and the officer must be available for after-hours, on-call and emergency work at any time. This is an established post (Circular No. 68 of 2026). Terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Belize Constitution (Public Service) Regulations 2014, the Financial and Stores Orders, and the Finance and Audit (Reform) Act.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the fleet and keep all vehicles registered, licensed and insured
- Conduct or organize driving and operating tests for new drivers
- Create and manage fleet policies and assign vehicles to authorized drivers
- Manage accident reports and coordinate with the police and insurers
- Monitor vehicle locations with GPS and fleet software, and act on misuse
- Prepare the monthly fuel report and develop fuel-efficiency strategies
- Ensure drivers comply with Ministry of Transport laws
- Record and analyze fleet data, set up maintenance schedules and keep servicing and inspection records
- Make random district visits and inspect vehicles for unsafe conditions
- Organize vehicle movement during hurricanes or other disasters
- Take part in training
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Mathematics, Business Management, Logistics or a related field
- Valid police record and valid driver's licence
- Understanding of basic mechanics
- Team player and continuous learner, with good written and verbal communication
- Able to set and monitor a budget
- Problem solving, critical thinking and decision making
- Organization, time management and multitasking
- Basic math and data analysis
