Web Developer and Digital Content Officer

About the role

The University of Belize is hiring a Web Developer and Digital Content Officer for its Marketing and Communications Office at the Belmopan Central Campus. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications and working with ICT, the role develops, administers and maintains the University websites and approved digital channels and supports communications campaigns. The role is a full-time commitment, with occasional work outside normal hours, and may require travel to other campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance the main website and other assigned sites, and administer the CMS (themes, plugins, templates, users, permissions and media)
  • Monitor for broken links, security vulnerabilities and performance issues
  • Keep academic, departmental, news, events and policy content accurate and current
  • Prepare, format, schedule and publish approved social media content, and prepare graphics, photos, videos and ads
  • Support campaigns, recruitment, events and publications with landing pages, forms and email templates
  • Ensure responsive design, usability and accessibility
  • Apply updates, manage SSL/TLS and backups, and report security incidents to ICT
  • Assist with web servers, hosting, domains, DNS and databases, and integrate third-party systems and APIs
  • Handle SEO and analytics, with periodic reports
  • Manage digital assets and documentation, liaise with units, train content contributors, and apply brand and approval protocols

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Web Development, Digital Media, Multimedia or a related field
  • Strong HTML, CSS, JavaScript and responsive design skills
  • Experience administering a CMS, preferably WordPress
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, initiative and attention to detail
  • Understanding of hosting, DNS, SSL, backups, version control, security, accessibility, SEO and performance
  • Sound judgment and confidentiality

Preferred qualifications

  • 3 or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience managing websites for a large organization, school or government agency
  • Experience managing organizational social media
  • A server-side language, relational databases and REST APIs
  • Google Analytics, Search Console and Meta Business Suite
  • Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva or DaVinci Resolve
  • Photography, videography, livestreaming, email marketing and AI tools
